Britain's two-time Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams has launched a boxing programme with youth charity the Prince’s Trust.

"Get Started in Boxing" with Nicola Adams and The Prince's Trust aims to introduce young people to the sport and build their self-confidence and motivational skills for work.

The course is aimed at young people aged 16 to 25 from disadvantaged backgrounds aiming to help them towards further education, training or employment, and is set to open later this year.

It is set to feature a mixture of practical and theory sessions aimed at boosting participants confidence, communication skills and understanding of how fitness and boxing techniques  can benefit their mental health.

Adams is a goodwill ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a charity founded in 1976 by King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, to help vulnerable young people get their lives on track.

Other ambassadors include England's men's national football team manager Gareth Southgate.

Adams underlined the importance of the boxing programme, and hopes it can "help young people to build confidence and develop transferable skills".

"Boxing has always been a safe space for me where I can be myself; but it has also given me the courage to go out and achieve my goals in life," Adams said.

"It is important for me to help and support young people as a Goodwill Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, because I know what it’s like to struggle.

"When I was young, having a support network like The Trust would have been so helpful.

"With that advice and guidance available to me, I would have more easily been able to overcome the challenges I faced.

"For young people today - having been faced with the pandemic and now a cost of living crisis - it's really important they have somewhere to go for support."

She turned professional in 2017, and retired holding the World Boxing Organization women's flyweight title in 2019.
