Olympic medallist and International Fencing Federation Member of Honour Adam Lisewski has died aged 79 ©FIE

The International Fencing Federation (FIE) announced that bronze medallist at the Mexico 1968 Olympics and 2013 Member of Honour Adam Lisewski has died aged 79.

He had two stints as President of the Polish Fencing Federation from 1980 to 1988 and from 1992 to 2008.

He was able to achieve two silvers and two bronzes at the team foil World Championships between 1965 and 1971, while his Olympic bronze medal at Mexico 1968 came in the men's team foil.

His only gold in competitions came at the 1963 University Games in the men's team epee and foil.

Lisewski was appointed as a technical and refereeing delegate at 15 junior and senior Fencing World Championships and was also an organiser of the 2001 Gdansk Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships.

The former fencer's achievements were recognised as he was awarded a "Distinguished Master of the Sport", with a silver medal for Outstanding Sports Achievements and a silver as well as a gold Crosses of Merit.

Away from fencing, Lisewski served as a Board member of the Polish Olympic Committee from 1980 until his death.

The FIE extended their deepest condolences to Lisewski's family and friends, the Polish Fencing Federation and the European Fencing Confederation.
