South Africa scripted history by defeating England by six runs in the second semi-final of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup.

The Proteas reached their first-ever cricket World Cup final in any format, where the hosts will face Australia for the title.

Half centuries from Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt helped South Africa post 164 for four in 20 overs in the first innings.

In the chase, England were restricted for 158 for eight.

While the in-form England started the chase in style, a crucial over from Ayabonga Khaka was the turning point of the game.

In the final over, England needed 13 to win but Shabnim Ismail stepped up and delivered for the hosts.

Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley put together 53 runs as openers before the latter was dismissed by Ismail, caught by Britts.

Britts has nominated herself for the catch of the tournament when she helped Ismail send Alice Capsey packing for a duck.

While Nat Sciver-Brunt did well to steady the boat, Wyatt was removed for 34.

Nadine de Klerk got the crucial wicket of Sciver-Brunt in the 17th over before Khaka removed Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone and Katherine Sciver-Brunt as England required 25 from the last two overs, which proved impossible for the lower order.

After winning the toss, Wolvaardt and Brits steered South Africa to 37 for no loss in six overs.

Finally, Ecclestone got the breakthrough for England bagging Wolvaardt’s wicket.

Brits departed for 68, removed by Lauren Bell in the 18th over.

Ecclestone ensured Chloe Tryon and De Klerk departed in quick succession but a costly final over from Katherine Sciver-Brunt saw Marizanne Kapp shine, helping the hosts to 164.
