The men’s singles tie started proceedings, with world number 121 Lei Lanxi, who yesterday shocked India’s world number nine HS Prannoy in the semi-final, overcoming Lee Yun-gyu 21-16, 21-15.

In the women’s singles tie, Gao Fangjie, winner of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 100 Indonesia Masters, ran out a straight games 21-15, 21-15 winner against Kim Ga-eun to make the tie 2-0.

South Korea won their first contest of the tie in the men’s doubles with Kim Won-ho and Na Sung-seung overcoming He Jiting and Zhou Haodong in a match that could have gone either way, with Ho and Sung winning 19-21, 21-16, 21-17.

China secured victory in the final in the women’s doubles tie with Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning overcoming Jong Na-eun and Lee So-hee 21-11, 21-10.

The victory at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in the United Arab Emirates means China have retained the title that they won in 2019 when they defeated Japan in the final.      

The win also sets China up nicely for this year’s Sudirman Cup, an international mixed team competition organised by the BWF, which is due to take place in Suzhou.
