World champion Lea Friedrich earned her third consecutive women's keirin title at the European Cycling Union Track European Championships to help ensure Germany topped the medals table in Grenchen.

Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt also defended their men's madison European crown at the Velodrome Suisse, meaning Germany finished with seven golds.

Britain finished second with four gold medals after Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker won the women's madison, and The Netherlands earned their fourth title of the Championships through world champion Harrie Lavreysen in the men's keirin.

Friedrich added to her sprint and team sprint successes in Grenchen, edging out Britain's Emma Finucane by 0.108sec and fellow German Emma Hinze by 0.140.

The 2018 and 2019 madison world champions Kluge and Reinhardt dominated their event, scoring 43 points to beat Italians Simone Consonni and Elia Viviani by nine points.

Olympic bronze medallists and reigning world champions Donavan Grondin and Benjamin Thomas of France had to settle for third with 32 points.

Britain's six silvers and two bronzes ensured they finished above The Netherlands in the medals table, with the Dutch riders taking one silver and five bronzes.

Archibald had already triumphed in the omnium and team sprint in Grenchen, and the Olympic madison gold medallist triumphed in this race for the second time at the European Championships after her 2021 success with Neah Evans.

Race partner Barker had also earned European gold with Ellie Dickinson in this event in 2017.

The pair cruised to victory with 38 points, beating the 25 from France's Victoire Berteau and Clara Copponi and 19 from Italy's Elisa Balsamo and Vittoria Guazzini.

Tokyo 2020 sprint and team sprint gold medallist and keirin bronze medallist Lavreysen earned his third victory in Grenchen.

He impressed to win the men's keirin by 0.273 from Poland's Patryk Rajkowski, and was joined on the podium by another Dutch rider in Jeffrey Hoogland, who was 0.321 off the pace.
