Double Olympian Azzedine Lagab led Algeria home to win the men's team trial on the opening day of the African Road Cycling Championships in Ghana.

Eritrea took silver and bronze went to Rwanda.

The victorious Algerian team included Lagab's Tokyo Olympic team mate Hamza Mansouri .

The quartet also included Hamza Amari and Nassim Saidi, who both recorded top half finishes in the road race at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran.

Their victory over the 36 kilometres course came after two successive bronze medals for Algeria in previous years.

Mauritius won the women's time trial from Namibia and Rwanda.

The Mauritius team included 2019 African Games silver medallist Aurelie Halbwachs who was joined by Kim Le Court, Raphaëlle Lamusse and Lucie Lagesse.

They had won silver at last year's African Road Cycling Championships.
