Hosts Egypt are in line to have a strong finish as three men and four women from the country have made it to the kumite finals of the Karate 1-Premier League in Cairo.

Mohamed Gaber of Egypt defeated Italian Danilo Greco 1-0 to set up a meeting with Kaisar Alpysbay of Kazakhstan in the under-60 kilograms category gold medal match.

Alpysbay defeated Aminagha Guliyev 6-2 to seal a spot in the final.

Hesham Abdalla Abdelgawad in the under-75kg and Taha Tarek Mahmoud in the over-84kg category are the other two finalists for the hosts.

Abdelgawad got the better of Azerbaijan’s Farid Aghayev 3-0 while Mahmoud beat another Azerbaijani in Asiman Gurbanli, 8-5, in the semi-final.

Dionysios Xenos of Greece will face Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Steven Da Costa of France for the under-67kg title.

Matteo Fiore of Italy will be up against Ukraine’s 2018 World Championships silver medallist Valeri Chobotar for the under-84kg crown.

In the women's under-50kg category, Reem Ahmed Salama registered a 4-1 win over compatriot Nagham Yasser to set up a final with 2022 World Games silver medallist Yorgelis Salazar of Venezuela.

Salazar beat 2021 World Championships bronze medallist Kateryna Kryva of Ukraine to reach the final.

Salma Hassan will face Anna Protsenko of Ukraine for the under-55kg title.

Hassan also faced another Egyptian in Ahlam Youssef, triumphing 4-1 in the semi-final.

Protsenko route to the gold medal match was after a 3-2 win over Madina Sadigova of Azerbaijan.

Nousrin Aly was the third Egyptian woman to seal a final spot and will face Oleksandra Sholohova of Ukraine in the under-61kg category.

The under-68kg class will see Mayar Zeinelabdin fight Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan for the title.

Japan will hope 2018 Asian Games gold medallist Ayumi Uekusa come out on top when she faces Olympic bronze medallist Sofya Berultseva of Kazakhstan.
