Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has relaunched a call to find companies to run transport operations at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

IDFM is the organisation authority that controls and coordinates the different companies operating in the region's public transport network.

Its initial attempt was unsuccessful as no candidate came forward for the €36.7 million (£32.4 million/$38.9 million) contract.

"One of the markets launched by IDFM to organize the transport of accredited Paris 2024 Olympic Games was unsuccessful, as happens in other public markets in the current situation," an IDFM spokesperson told Agence France-Presse.

"We relaunched it, in accordance with the procedure, for a period of thirty days.

"The schedule will be respected.

"We are on schedule."

The new call for tenders comes at a lower amount of €33.9 million (£29.9 million/$35.9 million).

It is said that the lack of suitors for the job is primarily down to potentially substantial penalties in the event of a malfunction during the Games.

At Paris 2024, IDFM is hoping to take buses and coaches from its fleet and designate operators who will run services between the Athletes' Villages, accommodation, press rooms, training venues and stadiums.

IDFM managing director Laurent Probst has previously stated that operators chosen for the task should have "an obligation of regularity and punctuality."

The first call for operators was said to have gaps in the proposal and a lack of knowledge for the state of transport during the Games led to scepticism over taking on the responsibility.

"It was unmanageable," an executive from the Autonomous Paris Transport Authority said, as reported by Le Canard Enchaîné.

"How can we know today what the traffic conditions will be at the time of the Olympic Games as long as Valérie Pécresse [President of the Ile-de-France regional council and IDFM] will not indicate what the level of supply of the classic network will be buses and subways for ordinary visitors?"
