Olympic bronze medallist Karl Geiger has suffered a shock elimination in qualifying from the latest leg of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, ending his hopes of winning the competition and suffering a blow in the Ski Jumping World Cup standings.

The German, a winner of 13 World Cup events, was the wrong side of the bubble, finishing 51st for a score of 84.6 points, meaning he does not reach the first round tomorrow - which becomes a knockout format.

Poland finished first and second in qualifying with World Cup leader Dawid Kubacki and three-time Olympic champion Kamil Stoch scoring 126.8 and 122.8 points, respectively.

Their first-round contests are due to be against their compatriots Stefan Hula and Jan Habdas, who were 50th and 49th.

Slovenian Anže Lanišek, second in the World Cup standings to Kubacki, qualified third in front of Norwegians Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang.

Austrians Stefan Kraft and Jan Hörl were joint-sixth, and were followed by Slovenians Peter Prevc and Lovro Kos and Michael Hayböck from Austria in the top 10.

There are other exciting knockout contests in the first round tomorrow.

Ryōyū Kobayashi from Japan, the two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist, is set to face Slovenian youngster Timi Zajc, who has two World Cup victories to his name.

After them, 2021 normal hill world champion Piotr Żyła is in action against Japanese jumper Naoki Nakamura.

Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud, winner of the first two legs of the tournament and who is still in contention to do a clean sweep, qualified 13th and is due first to face young Italian Francesco Cecon.
