The Bosnia and Herzegovina Taekwondo Federation (BiHTF) has been given financial support from the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OKBiH) as part of its push for funding sport better across the country.

BiHTF President Samir Šarić praised the work of volunteers and the sporting community for development, but stressed the need to have assistance on a national level for finances.

"We believe that systemic funding is among the priorities for the well-being and improvement of the entire sport, and we invite all sports federations in Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide support to the Olympic Committee of BiH," said Šarić.

"The financing of top sports needs to be resolved so that the athletes who represent the country at the most prestigious competitions have adequate conditions, and that they can focus on sports work and results, instead of having to think about whether they will be able to go to a certain competition at all."

He claimed the country invested the least amount in sport in the Balkans and would fight for more funding in future.

"The OKBiH does a lot for sports and athletes, which is also this initiative that we must all stand by and support.

"We are ready to go to protests if necessary," added Šarić.

"We invest the least in the region and then we are surprised that we still do not have an Olympic medal.

"We are asking for an increase in the budget to the level of the European Union average of one percent, and the other demands listed at the OKBiH round table."

The nation has not won an Olympic medal since separating from Yugoslavia, becoming an independent country at the Games in Barcelona in 1992.

Nedžad Husić has Bosnia and Herzegovina's best result at the Games to date, finishing fifth in the men's under-68 kilogram taekwondo tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
