Commonwealth Games champion Jason Smith and Olympic medallist Trish Fallon have been appointed by Basketball Australia in high-performance roles less than two years before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Smith has been appointed as director senior national teams and Fallon will take over as the women’s team lead and manager.

Smith has been the head of operations for the Australian men's national basketball team for the last two years, including Tokyo 2020 where they won a bronze medal.

He also experience working as a senior executive at Commonwealth Bank and Domo in data and analytics.

"This is the right time for me to join BA in a full-time capacity having worked with the Boomers team for the past 2 years," said Smith.

"Our national teams have never been in such a strong position with incredible talent, the world game is changing so rapidly we have an obligation to keep our teams in the top 3 and to do that will take as much work off the court as on.

"I look forward to working with Sandy Brondello and Brian Goorjian as we head towards Paris and a podium finish."

Three-time Olympic medallist Fallon has been serving the women’s national team as manager for a number of years.

"I’m looking forward to this new role focused beyond the game day operations to work closely with the athletes, coaches and support staff," said Fallon.

"Having just come off a successful FIBA World Cup campaign, the clock is now ticking as we head towards Paris 2024."

The high-performance team is led by Jan Stirling AM along with Leigh Gooding and Peter Lonergan.

Head coaches Sandy Brondello and Brian Goorjian will also be part of the programme with contracts until Paris 2024.

Smith is expected to start in his new role on February 1 2023 while Fallon will join mid-January.
