The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has confirmed four additional members are set to join the Board from the start of next year in incoming chair Gene Sykes, Lawrence "Bubba" Cunningham, Elana Meyers Taylor and Virginia Sung.

Former Los Angeles 2028 chief executive Sykes was announced as successor to Susanne Lyons in July, and is excited at the prospect of leading the Board.

"I am thrilled to accept this role and thankful for the confidence placed in me by the Board and the US Olympic and Paralympic community," he said.

"I am inspired by the opportunity in front of me and am grateful to the departing members for leaving the organisation so well positioned to achieve holistic success - on and off the field of play - as Team USA marches toward Paris 2024, Milan Cortina 2026 and Los Angeles 2028."

Joining Sykes on the Board is USA Table Tennis chief executive Sung as one of the three National Governing Bodies Council representatives, five-time Olympic bobsleigh medallist Meyers Taylor as one of the three Athletes’ Advisory Council members, and University of North Carolina athletic director Cunningham as an independent.

USA Wrestling executive director Rich Bender, eight-time swimming Paralympic medallist Brad Snyder, at-large athlete John Naber and independent Beth Brooke were all re-elected to four-year terms.

Outgoing chair Lyons, Steve Mesler, Kevin White and Bob Wood are all set to complete their terms at the end of the year.

Lyons said that serving on the Board had been "a great responsibility and privilege", and she was "thrilled to welcome four focused, inspiring and dynamic new members to the Board."

The USOPC Board consists of 18 officials, of whom nine are current or former international athletes for the US.

USOPC chief executive Sarah Hirshland, an ex-officio Board member, offered her "sincere thanks to our departing Board members who have volunteered countless hours to strengthen the Movement", and reserved special praise for Lyons' "strong leadership, incredible compassion and true friendship."
