This seeks to develop activities to promote the benefits of physical activity and sports, featuring a programme with various seminars and workshops to highlight ways to educate children.

It forms part of the COCH's 2022 strategic plan in the area of community and sport.

COCH secretary general Jaime Agliati provided more details on the scope of the agreement.

"This agreement establishes interesting tasks, including the development of activities that promote the values and benefits of physical and sports activity in the different age groups in the region," he said.

"The programme will include courses that contribute to sharing good community management practices, as well as generating and positioning periodic activities that directly benefit the coaches in the area."

Ñuble is the smallest region in Chile and in the centre of the country, south of the capital Santiago.

The IND regional director for Ñuble, Carlos Chandía, hailed the "strategic alliance", which he suggested would "strengthen sports".

Agliati and Chandía were joined by Ñuble regional Sports Minister Julio Jorquera for the signing of the agreement.

Jorquera added: "We are very happy to have generated this agreement with the Chilean Olympic Committee, it is very important.

"It will allow us to continue training professionals in the area of sports at the local, community and regional level, at the same time it allows us to have a highly qualified human resource and open spaces for physical activity.

"This alliance strengthens the commitment to sport on the part of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric and the Minister Alexandra Benado to deliver more and better tools, which will benefit our athletes who are highly committed in the Ñuble region."

Chile is set to stage the Pan American and Parapan American Games in its capital Santiago next year.
