Not even three penalties could prevent five-time Olympic champion Bø adding the men's 12.5 kilometres pursuit title to the men’s 10km sprint gold he had won on the previous day.

He dominated the race from the off and his time of 32min 44.4sec was 19.2sec faster than team-mate Sturla Holm Laegreid, who had two penalties in second place.

France’s Emilien Jacquelin, also with two penalties, earned his first podium finish of the season in third place, 47.3sec behind.

"The first clean shooting was perfect," Bø said.

"The second one I took a little bit more time and still managed to shoot clean.

"Then the race in the snow started to get harder.

"I tried to find the right speed onto the shooting range.

"But in the final shooting, I lost one bullet up, so it was hard in the end."

Leaving the penalty loop with the lead, he quickly became less concerned about the misses.

"You try to have eyes in your neck to see the others but I heard they were also missing so it was just to push," he added.

"It is not the best way to end the race - I need to be better for the next pursuit.

"You don’t want to miss two times in a row and win.

"Today I am happy with the victory but I could have done it differently."

Simon, by contrast, had no such reservations about her win in the final event of this World Cup, the women’s 10km pursuit, achieved with a combination of clean shooting and fast skiing. 

She crossed the line in 31min 13sec, with Italy’s Dorothea Wierer, who also shot clean, second at 11.9sec back.

Sweden's Elvira Öberg, with one penalty, finished in a season-best third place, 21.7sec adrift.
