The President of the Polish Tennis Association (PZT) has quit after accusations of sexual abuse, the governing body has announced.

According to an interview on Onet, Miroslaw Skrzypczynski was accused of sexually assaulting Katarzyna Kotula, a former tennis player who is currently a politician representing the constituency of Szczecin.

The Polish portal also reported that Skrzypczynski has a history physically and psychologically abusing young players while coaching them.

PZT has announced that vice-president Dariusz Łukaszewski will take over as the new President of the governing body.

"At the meeting of the Management Board of the Polish Tennis Association, which took place on November 24, 2022, Mr. Mirosław Skrzypczyński submitted a statement of resignation from the function of the President of the Management Board of the Polish Tennis Association with immediate effect," a PZT statement read.

"Mirosław Skrzypczyński's resignation was unanimously accepted."

The PZT Board has also decided to appoint a three-person commission to investigate the allegations against Skrzypczynski.

According to PZT, the commission will be made up of women, with their names and responsibilities to be confirmed the November 30.

Skrzypczynski, who has denied all allegations, was appointed as PZT head in 2017.

Polish world number one Iga Świątek took to Twitter to show support for the victims of abuse.

"What I feel I can do is to encourage you to look for help when something bad happens in sports communities and in every situation in life when there is a possibility that someone can suffer from physical violence or emotional abuse," Świątek wrote.

Former men’s tennis star Hubert Hurkacz also voiced his support on the social media platform.

"I support all women and all victims of abuse," he said.
