Norway and Denmark have secured places in the final of the European Handball Federation Women’s EURO 2022 tournament, after semi-final victories against France and Montenegro.

Norway overcame France 28-20 at the Arena Stozice in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with Nora Mork top scoring with eight goals for the Norwegians.

Victory saw Norway reach a 12th EHF EURO final, with the crucial period coming in the second half when they opened up a five-goal advantage inside the final ten minutes.

Norway’s captain Stine Oftedal was named player of the match, after scoring all of her side’s goals up until the 23rd minute and spearheading her side’s attack during the win.

Norway had finished second in their group following the main round with four wins from five matches and eight points, including a 27-25 triumph over Sweden and 26-23 win over Slovenia.

Elsewhere, Denmark defeated Montenegro 27-23, reaching their first EHF EURO final since 2002.

Emma Friis top scored for Denmark with seven goals, winning the player of the match award.

The Danes opened up a five-goal advantage in the 49th minute and maintained the gap until the final whistle, although victory was only sealed with two-and-a-half minutes remaining thanks to a crucial save from Althea Reinhardt.

Denmark finished top of their main round group, above Norway on points difference, with an identical records.

Their main round matches saw them beat Croatia and Hungary, and then Norway 31-29, a fixture that will now be repeated in the final, scheduled for Sunday (November 20).

Elsewhere today Sweden secured fifth place as they beat the Netherlands 37-32 in a placement match.
