The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) has announced that all participants must wear jackets with numbers at the World Sambo Championships.

Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan is set to host the flagship event from November 11 to 13.

FIAS announced that "special attention" will be paid to the what the athletes are wearing, with the International Federation saying that it can stop an athlete from competing if their jacket or shirt does not meet the specifications.

"If a participant’s jacket does not have a backnumber, or it does not meet the requirements set out in the FIAS Specification Sheet for Backnumber Manufacturing, such an athlete will not be allowed to participate in fights on the mat," FIAS said.

"Please, be careful and bring the sports uniform for the tournament in the proper form before the start of the competition!

"Detailed conditions of how the backnumber should look like and where it should be placed are available on the FIAS website: FIAS Specification Sheet for Backnumber Manufacturing."

According to the manual, the number behind the jacket should be in the centre, with a distance of three centimetres from the bottom of the collar.

It also says that white thread should be used to sew the number.

The International Federation is also set to hold a two-day coaching seminar before the World Championships on November 8 and 9.

Those who pass the seminar will be certified to FIAS level one.
