The Barbadian star has confirmed that she has given the three major medals she won this year to the Barbados Olympic Association to put in the museum.

The medals - all won in the women's 400 metres - were gold at the Commonwealth Games, bronze at the World Athletics Championships and silver at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships.

Williams posted a picture of the three medals on social media along with a message.

"Today, I had the honor (sic) of gifting my medals to the Barbados Olympic Association @olympicbb where they can be showcased in their museum for any and everyone visiting to view them," Williams wrote on Instagram.

"I thought it only fitting to share my achievements to the people of Barbados after all the overwhelming support from this past season.

"To my fellow bajan athletes, I hope you take this opportunity and remember that even though we're from a little island, we can do big things."

Williams claimed her first major senior medal when she struck bronze at the World Championships in Eugene in the United States in July.

She clocked a national record of 49.75sec to seal third spot behind Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic and champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas.

Following her superb performance in the US, Williams then became Commonwealth Games champion.

Williams crossed the finish line in 49.90 to take gold in a Games record, beating English duo Victoria Ohuruogu and Jodie Williams.

Williams was also the only Barbadian athlete to win gold in the English city as her country picked up three medals.

Later that month, Williams sealed silver at the NACAC Championships in Freeport in the Bahamas in a time of 49.86 as home favourite Miller-Uibo stormed to victory.
