The women's third seed was on the losing end of a back-and-forth battle against France's Jia Nan Yuan.

Reigning WTT Champions winner Wang won the inaugural event in Budapest in July but unexpectedly lost 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10.

"Before this match I didn't think too much about it," said Yuan.

"I just saw the draw and knew it was going to be very tough.

"After this I just released all the pressure and I went on to the court and fought hard against her."

Chinese top seeds Fan Zhendong and Sun Yingshu powered into the next round of the men's and women's singles tournaments, respectively, later in Macao.

Olympic silver medallist Fan dispatched Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting 3-0 in the round of 16 clash at the Infinity Arena.

Wong provided glimpses of quality but overall he did not look like pulling off an upset as he fell to a 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 defeat.

Fan's compatriot Sun, who was also a runner-up at the Tokyo 2020 individual contest, won comfortably in Macao.

The 21-year-old cruised past Brazilian Bruna Takahashi 11-6, 11-2, 11-5 in the final match of the day.

The competition is set to continue tomorrow with women's fifth seed Mima Ito taking on Miyuu Kihara in an all-Japan battle.

The competition which has a prize fund of $800,000 (£714,000/€818,00) continues until Sunday.
