Men's world number one Fan Zhendong is set to make his World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions debut in Macao with a total prize purse of $800,000 (£708,000/€812,000) on offer.

Fan will be looking to bring his full power set to the competition in a bid to add this title to his packed trophy cabinet.

He is coming off a high of recently claiming the World Team Table Tennis Championships title with China in Chengdu and was the victor of the men's singles at last year's World Table Tennis Championships.

Fan, who finished runner-up at the Olympics but sealed the team title, is due to meet Hong Kong's Wong Chun-ting in the first round.

He could later meet Germany's Patrick Franziska, who shocked China's Ma Long at the WTT Champions European Summer Series in July.

Tomokazu Harimoto, the winner of the inaugural WTT Champions event, is scheduled to play Sweden's Mattias Falck.

Meanwhile, women's number one Sun Yingsha will be seeking to redeem herself after suffering defeat back in July.

The star from China is due to meet Bruna Takahashi of Brazil.

American Lily Zhang has been given the chance to enact revenge on Japan's Kasumi Ishikawa.

Zhang was an inch too short as she fell to a 3-2 defeat previously to Ishikawa in Budapest.

European Summer Series champion Wang Manyu and Wang Yidi, who finished runner-up, are both set to compete for China also.

The WTT Champions event is the second table tennis competition to be held in China in a matter of weeks, despite COVID-19 restrictions in the country.

It is scheduled to start tomorrow and run until Sunday (October 23).
