The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) has backed Alexa Conners' non-profit In Your Corner, which offers practitioners of combat sports tools to improve their mental health.

GAMMA says it will connect anyone facing issues of mental health with In Your Corner if contacted.

To coincide with World Mental Health Day on October 10, GAMMA published an interview with Conners, who set up the charity this year while taking a break from a professional MMA career.

Conners spoke about her mental health - including being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after her father, who was suffering from a mental illness, killed his partner before taking his own life - and her motivations for establishing In Your Corner.

"I thought to myself, why not build a community of athletes who can fight the good fight together?

"Mental health needs to be talked about more," Conners said.

"It is just as important as our physical health.

"We all have something we can relate to when it comes to mental health.

"If we are not ready mentally during training camp or competitions, then we are already beaten.

"It is important to understand a healthier mind leads to a successful and healthy life."

Conners fought nine times for the Invicta Fighting Championships promotion between 2016 and 2019, posting a 5-4 record.

The 31-year-old American is due to return to action in a Conflict MMA event next month.
