Commonwealth Games gold medallists India continued their mighty form by upsetting second seeds Germany in the men's event at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Team Table Tennis Championships in Chengdu.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran set India's adrenalin pumping after coming from two games behind to take down Benedikt Duda at the Chengdu High-tech Sports Centre.

Duda initially stole the first two games 13-11, 11-4 before Gnanasekaran responded with three consecutive victories - 11-8, 11-4, 11-9 - to win the contest.

Gnanasekaran followed the same pattern against European champion Dang Qiu, winning 10-12, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9.

India won the match 3-1 overall and now join France in winning two from two in Group Two.

Kazakhstan recorded their first victory of the competition with a 3-0 clean sweep against Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan did not drop a game throughout the fixture.

Sixth seeds Brazil fell to a 3-2 defeat against Portugal, meaning the Portuguese sit top of Group Six without a loss.

Slovakia beat Denmark 3-1 to boost their chances of progressing to the next round.

Chinese Taipei, the seventh seeds, are also under pressure after registering their second defeat, a 3-1 loss to Croatia, while Belgium condemned Singapore to the same fate via a 3-0 whitewash.

One of Belgium and Croatia are due to lose their 100 per cent record when they clash tomorrow.

Hosts China ensured they are in a good position to qualify after overcoming the United States 3-0 in Group One.

Japan and South Korea maintained their qualification pushes in Group Three and Group Four with 3-2 and 3-0 wins against Romania and the Czech Republic, respectively.

In the women's competition, Chinese Taipei almost suffered a devastating defeat to France, who came back from 2-0 down to level the score.

Nevertheless, Zhu Chengzhu was on hand to deliver a 11-6, 12-10, 8-11, 11-6 victory versus Prithika Pavade.

Chinese Taipei are the only team in Group Three to remain undefeated, a status which also applies to Group One side China.

The hosts cruised past Puerto Rico, winning 3-0, and Malaysia enjoyed a 3-1 win against Canada.

Japan and Slovakia replicated the 3-0 result against Poland and Uzbekistan, respectively, in Group Two while Italy also swept South Africa 3-0 in Group Three.

Iran were 3-0 losers versus Luxembourg in Group Four and Germany sealed a 3-0 win versus Egypt in Group Five.

The women's and men's group stage continues tomorrow.
