Wayne Mitchell has been re-elected as vice-president of Taekwondo Canada, while the organisation has awarded its 2023 National Championships to Toronto.

Mitchell and Darlene MacDonald were both in the frame for the vice-president role and it was the incumbent who prevailed at the body's Annual General Meeting.

He was President of the organisation between 2015 and 2019 and has previously served as secretary general.

In 2020, he took the vice-president position.

Elsewhere, Sandra de Montigny was re-elected as treasurer after running unopposed.

Incumbents Jessica Scarlato and Miro Soucek were returned as directors at large, with MacDonald also unsuccessful in gaining this role.

All those elected will now serve four-year terms on the six-strong Board of Directors.

President Kee Ha and secretary Ken Anstruther were not up for re-election.

The National Championships in Toronto will take place at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel from January 4 to 7.

Both kyorugi and poomsae taekwondo will be contested in the senior, junior and cadet divisions.

The event will be used to select Canada's national teams for 2023, including the qualifier for next year's Pan American Games in Santiago.

"We are extremely excited to bring the Taekwondo Canada National Championships back to Toronto for 2023," said executive director Dave Harris.

"The decision was made with the intention of making travel for the event easier for those throughout Canada via a centralised location.

"Our partnership with the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel was also a determining decision in returning to Toronto this year.

"We look forward to hosting all our participants and starting the 2023 year in Toronto."
