Germany dominated the cycling events at the Munich 2022 European Championships today by winning three gold medals.

World sprint champion and Tokyo 2020 team sprint silver medallist Emma Hinze was the fastest rider in the women’s 500 metres time trial final.

Hinze grabbed gold with a timing of 32.66sec.

Ukraine’s Olena Starikova won the silver medal in 33.40 while Miriam Vece of Italy secured bronze in 33.43.

The women’s individual pursuit final saw Tokyo 2020 team pursuit winner Mieke Kröger grab another gold for the Germans.

The host nation’s rider crossed the line in 3:22.46 with compatriot Lisa Brennauer getting silver in 3:23.56.

Italy’s Vittoria Guazzini pipped Britain’s Tokyo 2020 team pursuit silver medallist Josie Knight for the bronze medal in 3:24.81.

Germany’s third gold of the day came in the men’s individual pursuit final thanks to Nicolas Heinrich.

Heinrich bagged gold in 4:09.320 followed by Italians Davide Plebani and Manilo Moro in 4:12.92 and 4:15.362 respectively.

In the women’s elimination race, the title went to Belgium’s world madison champion Lotte Kpoecky, followed by Pfeiffer Georgi and Mylene de Zoete of Britain and the Netherlands. 

Portugal won the final cycling gold medal of the day in the men’s 15 kilometres scratch race final.

Iúri Leitão, the men’s elimination silver medallist from the 2021 World Championships clinched the title.

Moritz Malcharek won a silver for the hosts in the event while Mylène de Zoete of the Netherlands took bronze.
