The Junior Judo World Championships are set to get started tomorrow in Guayaquil in Ecuador, with over 300 athletes from 63 nations entered to compete.

Scheduled to end on Sunday (August 14), there will be 14 individual gold medals awarded, as well as a world mixed team event on the last day of competition.

A total of 378 entrants are on the list to participate.

International Judo Federation (IJF) President Marius Vizer has praised the host city's features prior to the Championships.

"Guayaquil is the perfect location in which to receive the world’s best competitors, as it has been an international port town for centuries, welcoming visitors from all continents throughout its colourful history," said Vizer.

"It is here that we celebrate together the achievements of our juniors in the spirit of friendship and solidarity."

Georgia, who picked up four gold medals in men's competition in 2021, will be amongst the favourites for titles in Ecuador.

France, who are also the mixed team defending champions, will expect to claim more medals too.
