New Zealand's Joelle King and Paul Coll took gold in the mixed doubles squash here with an impressive straight games victory against English home favourites Alison Waters and Adrian Waller.

King is ranked fifth in the Professional Squash Association women's world rankings and Coll second in the men's, and the pair underlined their dominance in the mixed doubles event, triumphing without dropping a game throughout the tournament.

Despite facing players backed by a home crowd, King and Coll showed their class to take the first game 11-3, and won the second 11-6 to close out the victory at the University of Birmingham.

The pair had taken bronze at Gold Coast 2018 in the mixed doubles.

For Coll, it was his second gold of Birmingham 2022 after triumphing in the men's singles, while King missed out on a medal in the women's singles after losing to England's Sarah-Jane Perry in the match for bronze.

Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Saurav Ghosal of India took bronze with a comfortable straight games victory, denying the Gold Coast 2018 winners Australia's Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley a medal with an 11-3, 11-6 victory.

There will be an all-English final in the men's doubles consisting of the Gold Coast 2018 silver and bronze medallists.

James Willstrop and Declan James then came from behind to beat Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow and Yuen Chee Wern 5-11, 11-5, 11-8.

In the women's doubles, King competed with Amanda Landers-Murphy, and they combined to beat Malaysia's Chan Yiwen and Ainaa Ampandi 11-9, 11-7 in the first semi-final.

Perry and Waters of England will be their final opponents, after they came from a game down to defeat Rachel Arnold and Aifa Azman of Malaysia 8-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Men's and women's doubles squash finals are due to be held tomorrow.
