France's triathletes won the Mixed Relay World Championship title for the fourth time in a row after coming out on top on the streets of Montreal.

Pierre Le Corre, Emma Lombardi, Vincent Luis and Cassandre Beaugrand finished in a time 1 hour 27min 14sec in the Canadian city to add to the French titles from 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Reigning Olympic gold medallists Britain had to settle for silver as Alex Yee, Sophie Coldwell, Sam Dickinson and Georgia Taylor-Brown clocked 1:27:37.

The United States team of Seth Rider, Taylor Spivey, Kevin McDowell and Summer Rappaport took bronze in 1:27:44.

Britain's Yee, who won the individual men's event yesterday, led after the first leg with New Zealand's Hayden Wilde.

On the second leg, Denmark's Alberte Kjaer Pedersen tagged first but France's world under-23 champion Lombardi was just behind.

The French triathlete's display allowed Luis to create some distance on his swim, while Britain's Dickinson missed his box with his helmet and was handed a 10 second penalty.

Luis went alone for the bike and run and had a 19 second advantage heading into the final transition.

Beaugrand duly extended France's advantage with another superb swim, but she was being hunted down by Taylor-Brown, who won yesterday's women's race.

However, the Briton was 52 seconds off the front at one stage and despite a superb effort for silver could not overhaul the leader.

Two places in the mixed relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics were on offer from the race, and as France have already qualified as hosts they have gone to Britain and the US.

"I was pretty confident I would start in a good position, after the swim I had a gap and tried to keep it, and Cassandre finished the job," said Luis.

"It proves France has a lot of resources and a new generation coming and I'm looking forward to the relay in Paris."

Beaugrand added: "They did all the work, I just had to finish it."
