The United States laid claim to top spot again on the medals table with 15 podium finishes at the Pan American Fencing Championships at the Polideportivo Central del Parque Olimpico in Asunción.

With seven gold, four silver and four bronze medals, the Americans finished far ahead of second-placed Canada's11 medals - two gold, five silver and four bronze.

Venezuela finished third with six medals, two of each colour.

Daryl Homer claimed the individual men's sabre title, beating American team-mate Eli Dershwitz 15-11 in the final.

Pascual Maria Di Tella of Argentina and a third American, Andrew Mackiewicz, took the bronze medals.

Another win came for the US in the women's equivalent as Anne-Elizabeth Stone defeated Canadian Gabriella Page 15-11 in the final.

Madison Thurgood of Canada and Shia Rodriguez from Venezuela completed the podium in third.

In the men's team sabre competition, it was no surprise that the US took the title by beating Canada 45-37; Colombia won the bronze medal.

The Americans defeated Canada 45-34 in the women's team event, and Brazil claimed bronze.

US athlete Alexander Massialas won 15-13 against Maximilien van Haaster of Canada in the men's individual foil final.

Two Americans took bronze - Nick Itkin and Gerek Meinhardt.

Canada's Eleanor Harvey broke the streak of American success with victory in the women's foil by beating Lee Kiefer from south of the border 15-11.

Harvey defeated her compatriot Jessica Zi Jia Guo and Kiefer won against her team-mate Jacqueline Dubrovich in the semi-finals.

Canada took the women's foil team title by a 45-37 score versus the US, and the Americans won the men's team final 45-25 against Canada.

Venezuela claimed all men's épée medals of all colours as Ruben Limardo Gascon won 10-9 against compatriot  Grabiel Lugo in the final, while team-mate Francisco Limardo and Samuel Gallagher Pelletier of Canada took bronze.

Isabel Di Tella of Argentina won 15-12 over American Katharine Holmes for the women's épée title, joined on the podium by Sheila Liliana Tejeda of Mexico and home favourite Montserrat Viveros of Paraguay.

Finally, Venezuela defeated Colombia by a single point in the men's team épée 32-31 as Argentina claimed the bronze.

The US won 35-23 in the women's team final versus Venezuela, being joined on the podium by Canada.
