Germany coped with the pressure to triumph at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Jumping Nations Cup Europe in Sopot.

Two double-clear runs from both Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Andre Thieme, with the latter producing when riding last, clinched victory to leave Germany second in the overall standings on 170 points behind Switzerland, who came third on the day.

A knocked-down fence from Thieme would have handed France victory, after Kevin Staut, Edward Levy and Julien Gonin all delivered clears in the second round.

But the 46-year-old rider held his nerve and avoided any mistakes to ensure his team ended the day's action with just four faults.

"My mare just jumped so outstanding - she made it happen and I'm thankful to her and to Otto that he gave me his trust to be last to go - I'm so happy we did it again," Thieme said.

"The time allowed made it difficult, and especially in the first half there were many time faults, and there was a very tricky big vertical after the water and many had that down.

"But this was very smart course designing."

The result means that the Germans have now won successive events in the Polish city, after achieving the same feat in Sopot last year.

"Team Germany loves to come to Sopot," coach Otto Becker said.

"The class was very good and very exciting to the end, and two rounds make the Nations Cup the best competition in the world."

Sopot is event two of six in the 2022 Europe Division One series calendar, with Rotterdam in The Netherlands set to host the next stage of the competition on June 24.

Seven of the nine teams will qualify for the grand final at the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona, which is scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 2.
