Fellow Paralympian Melanie Woods has also been chosen alongside sprinters Ross Paterson and Alexander Thomson and debutant Sean Fame.

The number of athletes is an improvement on the three which attended Gold Coast 2018.

Wheelchair sprinter Kinghorn is coming off the back of bronze in the women’s 100 metres T53 and silver in the women’s 400m T53 at Tokyo 2020.

The 26-year-old is due to compete in her third Commonwealth Games following on from prior editions in Scotland and Australia.

Despite being more comfortable in the sprint events, she is expected to race in the 1,500m T54 - as she had done in the previous two Games.

Woods is also anticipated to compete in the women’s T54.

Paterson and Thomson are due to participate in the men’s 100m T38 while Frame is set to challenge in the men’s T54 marathon.

"We’re delighted five athletes have been selected by Team Scotland to compete in the Para events," Julie Mollison, the athletics team manager of Team Scotland, said.

"We send our warm congratulations to them, their families, their coaches and their clubs and support teams.

"With the Games being in the UK, it is very exciting for everyone around these athletes as there is a chance to travel to Birmingham to cheer them on.

"Five athletes is up on the three from Gold Coast 2018 and that’s very pleasing.

"The overall selection reflects progress by these athletes as individuals and arguably also more opportunities and more integration by our clubs to create the right kind of pathway for Para athletes.

"We feel sure the Para community will take great encouragement from these selections."

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be staged between July 28 and August 8.

The marathon T54 is planned to be held on July 30 while the track and field events are due to take place from August 2 to 7.
