France swept the men's podium while Italian Sandra Mairhofer took the women's title in cross triathlon at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships today in Târgu Mureș.

France's Arthur Serrieres retained his men's gold medal in front of two of his team-mates - brothers Felix and Arthur Forissier - who claimed silver and bronze.

Serrieres crossed the line first in 2 hours 01min 01sec, more than a minute in front of his closest challenger.

"It's a tough race, so I am really happy to take my second world title," said Serrieres.

"It's always a special feeling to have a world championship title.

"I played my card and pushed and I am really happy to take the win here."

Portuguese athlete François Vie was able to win the under-23 world title, finishing seventh overall.

Sam Osborne of New Zealand was a minute off the podium in fourth overall, with Spain's Ruben Ruzafa and Lukas Kocar of Czech Republic coming in ahead of Vie.

Completing the top 10 were Michele Bonacina of Italy, France's Jules Dumas and Gaetan Vivien, also from France.

Mairhofer led an Italian one-two, finishing 87 seconds in front of Marta Menditto in a time of 2:22:03.

Four minutes behind the winner was Solenne Billouin of France, who took bronze.

Samantha Kingsford of New Zealand and Alizee Paties of France completed the top five.

Switzerland's Loanne Duvoisin, Sofiya Pryyma of Ukraine, Italian Eleonora Peroncini and Slovakians Zuzana Michalickova and Lydia Drahovska completed the top 10.
