This aims to allow the THF to develop its work on the Asian continent, particularly in its base of South Korea and in Thailand, with discussions with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ongoing.

THF Asia coordinates projects which aim to use taekwondo to support refugees and displaced people.

A portion of the funds raised by THF Asia will be donated to the THF under the agreement, with education and reporting among the areas covered.

The agreement was welcomed by Chungwon Choue, who is chairman of the THF and President of World Taekwondo.

"We are delighted to sign this agreement with THF Asia and strengthen the cooperation between our two organisations," the South Korean official said.

"It is our ambition to have THF entities in each of the five continents which are responsible for the coordination of THF projects within their regions.

"It is important that as the overall body, the THF works closely with each of these continental organisations to maximise efficiency and ensure we are providing the best possible support to those who need it most."

Further cooperation agreements are planned to enhance the THF's presence around the world.

The THF has previously entered similar arrangements with the Italian Taekwondo Federation to enhance its presence in Europe.

Choue founded the THF in 2015, and last month was re-elected as its chairman unanimously.

The body aims to reach taekwondo to refugees and other displaced people around the world.

Current projects include the flagship academy at the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan, home to people who have fled the war in neighbouring Syria.
