Four different nations claimed team titles on the final day of the Pan American Karate Championships in Curaçao.

Fresh from winning the individual under-50 kilograms title, Yorgelis Salazar helped Venezuela to triumph in the women’s team kumite event at the World Trade Centre.

Claudymar Garcés, Marianth Cuervo Baute, Dubraska Álvarez and Barbara Pérez completed the composition of the successful Venezuelan team.

Venezuela beat Brazil 2-1 in the final, with Dominican Republic and the United States taking bronze medals at the expense of Mexico and Guatemala respectively.

The men’s team kumite gold went to Chile, who overcame Dominican Republic in the final.

Bronze went to Guatemala and Colombia.

The team kata titles went to Peru and Colombia.

Rosa Almarza, Karlen Salcedo, and Maria Romani proved too strong for Brazil in the women’s final, but Alejandro Diaz, Samuel Giraldo, and Alejandro Ramirez of Colombia prevented a Peruvian double by winning the men’s final.

Women’s team kata bronze went to Colombia and Chile, with Brazil and Costa Rica finishing joint-third in the men’s event.

Para karate competitions were also held on the final day of competition.

He beat Mexico’s Francisco Rivera Raya in the final, while Chilean duo Wladimir Vergara González and Cristián Reyes took bronze.

Canada’s Natalie Olson was the women’s intellectually impaired gold medallist, with compatriot Patricia Wright placing second and the US’ Jamie Green third.
