Brady Koontz, Samuel Jones, Randon Miranda and Patrick Smith all tasted success in the Mexican city after overcoming home wrestlers in the Greco-Roman categories.

Miranda was involved in a 20-point slugfest with Mexico's Samuel Gurria Vigueras in the 60 kilograms class before prevailing 12-8.

"That was a lot of points," said Miranda who had to settle for silver at last year's Pan American Championships.

"He was looking to score as he was in his hometown and with that, he brought in the energy.

"I think staying composed [made the difference].

"I had a little bit of a game plan, not give him too many openings as he caught me a couple of times but that was the goal - to not get caught."

The bronze medals went to Dicther Toro of Colombia and Joao Benevides of Peru.

The US enjoyed further success in Acapulco when Koontz claimed the 55kg title with a 9-1 victory over home favourite Alex Salas Esquivel, with round two proving to be key.

Koontz and Salas Esquivel were joined on the podium by Brandon Escobar Amador of Honduras.

Jones also overcame a Mexican opponent in Jose Rodriquez Hernandez to secure the 63kg crown.

The American launched Rodriguez for two four-point throws from body locks to win the bout 10-0.

Smith was America's fourth gold medallist of the night as he remained undefeated in the 72kg division, beating Edsson Olmos of Mexico 4-2 in a decisive match.

Cuba's Oscar Pino Hinds made a memorable return to the Greco-Roman style as he secured the 130kg title.

Pino has been competing in freestyle over the past three years but returned to the discipline that brought him world silver in 2019 to seal the 130kg crown.

Eduard Soghomonyan of Brazil defeated defending champion Leo Santana Heredia of the Dominican Republic in the quarter-finals but came unstuck against Pino who prevailed 9-1 to clinch gold.

"I am back to Greco-Roman and I feel good," said the victorious Pino.

"I am back and I will compete at the World Championships.

"I know I have to beat Riza [Kayaalp] to win the gold.

"I was close in Nur-Sultan but did a mistake but now I am ready to win."

Santana and Chile's Yasmani Acosta claimed the bronze medals in the 130kg division.

Kevin Mejin Castillo, who became the first wrestler from Honduras to win a Pan American title last year, gave himself a birthday present by defending his 97kg crown in Acapulco.

He triumphed without dropping a point in the tournament as he defeated Cuba's Juan Conde Ibanez 8-0 in the gold medal bout.

Carlos Adames of the Dominican Republic and Nichloas Boykin of the US bagged bronze medals after seeing off Brazil's Igor Alves and Eduardo Gajardo of Chile respectively.

The 67kg title was won by Colombia's Julian Horta Acevedo who achieved his first senior Pan American gold after beating Kenedy Moraes Pedrosa of Brazil 5-0.

In the bronze medal matches, Enyer Feliciano of the Dominican Republic edged Chile's Cristobal Torres 4-3 and Peru's Nilton Soto overcame Mexican Diego Martinez 2-0.
