International University Sports Federation (FISU) secretary general and chief executive Eric Saintrond dressed in flip-flops and casual shorts to visit the Brazilian University Beach Games (JUBs) in Aracati in the state of Ceará.

Saintrond was pleased by the warm welcome received and the infrastructure of the event, organised by the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU).

"It’s a fantastic event for students," Saintrond said.

"Obviously traditional sports like beach volley and beach soccer contribute to create an atmosphere that students love.

"I was impressed by the quality of the competitions."

Delighted with the sporting environment, Saintrond emphasised that the JUBs will leave a lasting positive legacy for the host city.

"With more than a thousand of people attending the competitions, the event will boost the development of the local community," he added.

Alongside CBDU President Luciano Cabral, an acting first vice-president of FISU, Saintrond also awarded medals and trophies to student-athletes who managed to secure spots on the podium.

"The CBDU team is very strong and they have the competence to lead big events," Saintrond said.

"This is the message that I will share with the FISU Executive Committee when I return."

The JUBs, organised by the CBDU with the University Sports Federation of Ceará, featured 10 disciplines for the first time - 3×3 basketball, beach soccer, beach handball, beach tennis, beach wrestling, cross training, footvolley, futmesa, beach volleyball and mixed 4×4 volleyball.
