The Swiss team of lead Melanie Barbezat, second Esther Neuenschwander, skip and third Silvana Tirinzoni and fourth Alina Paetz won 7-6 in a contest that came down to the final stone at the CN Centre in Prince George, Canada.

The first score of the contest came in end two with Switzerland leading 3-0, and they threatened to move into a significant lead in end three, holding six stones going into the final shot of the end.

South Korea’s fourth Kim EunJang managed to take the shot with her final stone and get her team on the board.

At the halfway point of the match Switzerland held a narrow lead 4-3, before the contest was level again at the end of the seventh end when EunJang completed a draw for two to make the score 5-5.

In the next two end the teams exchanged single shots meaning it was all to play for going into the last end of regulation at 6-6.

Switzerland held the last stone advantage and it proved crucial with Paetz using it to play a double take-out and secure victory by a single point at 7-6.

The win secured a fifth world title for Paetz, who was also named winner of the Frances Brodie Award, which is given to the curler who, "by deed and action in the course of their performance, best exemplify the traditional curling values of skill, honesty, fair play, friendship and sportsmanship."

For the Swiss alternate Carole Howald victory also represents a fifth world title.

For the South Korea team of lead Kim SeonYeong, second Kim ChoHi, third Kim KyeongAe, EunJang and alternate Kim YeongMi, the silver medals represent their highest place finish at a World Women’s Championship.
