The nation won their first ever match at a World Championship at the tournament in Prince George, during the penultimate session of the round-robin stage.

Speaking after their historic win, team skip Dilsat Yildiz said: "Now we have our first win of the tournament and we’re happy. 

"We feel good now and want to win the rest of our games."

Although they will not achieve a podium finish, the Turkish team will hope to finish their campaign off with a win against Scotland tomorrow.

At the other end of the table, a strong Swedish team beat the United States 5-4.

By winning eight of their eleven round-robin session matches, Sweden have already qualified for this weekend’s semi-final.

Meanwhile, the US sit in the middle of the pack and will be looking to secure a place in the next phase on the final day of round-robin action.

Elsewhere, Korea defeated their Canadian hosts in a tight game by 8-7.

This match ebbed back and forth but concluded with Korea winning with a score of one in an extra end.

The hosts currently sit one place in front of Korea in third place and both will be involved in matches on the final day of round-robin action.

Denmark beat Italy in the fourth game in this session by 7-5.

It was yet another tight game, and despite some excellent play from the Italian skip Stefania Constantini, the Danes prevailed.

This win for Denmark places them joint fifth in the standings, alongside Japan.

Italy are unable to qualify in tenth place.

Speaking after their win, Denmark’s skip Madeleine Dupont said: "I’m very happy. It’s going to be a good day tomorrow, a close day."

The final three round-robin sessions will take place tomorrow, before the tournament moves on to the knockout stages on Saturday (March 26).
