Norway’s Olympic ski jumping champion Marius Lindvik is set to be one of the biggest attractions when the World Cup qualification begins under the lights at Obertsdorf.

Lindvik struck Olympic gold in the large hill at Zhangjiakou last month and also took the ski flying world title on home snow in Vikersund last weekend.

If he is successful this weekend, he will become the first Norwegian to win a World Cup event since Robert Johansson four years ago.

Other challengers include last week's silver medallist Timi Zajc of Slovenia and Austrian Stefan Kraft who took bronze.

The overall leader in the World Cup series with two competitions left is Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi who won Normal hill gold at the Olympics last month.

Kobayashi, the first Japanese man to win this title, heads the standings with 1,478 points, an advantage of 58 points over Germany’s Karl Geiger, who won his first individual Olympic medal when he claimed bronze last month.

Geiger is bidding for a second-successive ski flying World Cup title after his victory in 2021.

Other contenders include Peter Prvec of Slovenia but he hasn’t won an international title since 2016.

Triple Olympic gold medallist Kamil Stoch of Poland is also amongst the starters.
