Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States has secured the women’s overall International Ski Federation Alpine Ski World Cup title for the fourth time after finishing second in today’s super-G in Courchevel in France.

Shiffrin endured a disappointing Winter Olympics in Beijing where she failed to secure a medal but has bounced back with four podium finishes, including victory in yesterday’s downhill to win the overall Crystal Globe.

With two races left of the season, Shiffrin, who also won the World Cup in 2017, 2018 and 2019, holds an unassailable 236-point lead at the top of the standing.

Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel triumphed in the final women’s super-G race of the campaign in a time of 1min 13.68sec.

Shiffrin fell agonisingly short of back-to-back wins in Courchevel as she clocked 1:13.73, while Switzerland’s Michelle Gisin came third in 1:13.81.

Italy’s Federica Brignone, who had already been crowned super-G World Cup winner, came home in 19th position.

While Shiffrin celebrated her overall World Cup success, her boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde clinched the men’s super-G Crystal Globe, adding to the downhill title he won yesterday.

The Norwegian came fourth in today’s super-G race to seal top spot in the discipline with 530 points - 128 more than Switzerland’s overall World Cup champion Marco Odermatt.

Vincent Kriechmayr made it two wins from two in Courchevel as he backed up his downhill victory with super-G success.

The Austrian clinched the win in 1:09.43, edging Odermatt into second position for the second successive day.

Odermatt had to settle for silver with 1:09.96, while compatriot Gino Caviezel came third in 1:10.18.

The FIS Alpine World Cup Final moves to the French resort of Méribel tomorrow with men’s giant slalom and women’s slalom races.
