The International Tennis Federation (ITF) Board of Directors has confirmed the replacement of the Russian and Belarusian teams for the 2022 Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup seasons.

Both Russia and Belarus have been suspended from ITF membership and from participation in ITF international team competitions in response to the war in Ukraine.

Despite being qualified automatically for the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup, Russia will not be able to fight for the title.

Instead, the highest-ranked losing semi-finalist in 2021, Australia, will take Russia’s place, while Slovakia, who were supposed to face Australia in the qualifiers, has been given a bye.

The same would apply for Belgium, who was expected to compete against Belarus in the qualifiers taking place from April 15-16 this year.

Australia, Slovakia and Belgium will encounter Switzerland at the 2022 Finals as well as seven other nations from the qualifiers and the host nation, which is still to be announced.

As the highest-ranked team among the 2021 losing semi-finalists, Serbia will take Russia's position in the 2022 Davis Cup Finals.

The Davis Cup Finals steering committee will also announce a replacement wild card team from the 12 losing nations from the 2022 qualifiers, which took place on March 4 and 5.

The wild card team will face 2021 finalists Croatia, 2021 semi-finalists Serbia, wild card Great Britain and 12 other nations who won their 2022 qualifiers earlier this month.

This includes Argentina, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea Republic, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and USA.

The group stage of the Finals will be held in September before the quarterfinals, while semi-finals and final is scheduled for November.

ITF will announce the venues in due course.
