The four-time Olympic champion had originally announced her intention to end her career in Oslo last week, before opting to compete in Sweden as the World Cup season concludes.

Johaug earned victory in the women’s 10 kilometres event in a time of 22min 34.4sec, finishing with a 35.9 second cushion over runner-up Jonna Sundling of Sweden.

United States’ Jessie Diggins completed the podium, ending 0.4 behind Sundling.

The triumph gave Johaug the 100th World Cup victory over her career, split between 82 individual wins and 18 team triumphs.

The 33-year-old also received the Crystal Globe for the distance classification at the end of the event.

Johaug finished top of the standings with 735 points, with second-placed Frida Karlsson of Sweden adrift on 480.

Russia’s Natalya Nepryayeva will receive the overall World Cup Crystal Globe at a later date, due to the FIS banning Russian athletes competing following their country's invasion of Ukraine.

Nepryayeva finished top of the standings on 973 points, with Diggins second on 793.

Norway’s Didrik Toenseth claimed his first World Cup win of the season in the final men’s individual race.

Toenseth earned victory in the men’s 15km event in a time of 31:57.6.

Sweden’s Calle Halfvarsson and Norway’s Harald Oestberg Amundsen completed the podium in 32:06.6 and 32:18.0 respectively.

Finland’s Iivo Niskanen, who finished 10th today, was crowned winner of the men’s distance classification.

Niskanen remained top of the standings on 493 points, with his nearest challengers Alexander Bolshunov and Johannes Høsflot Klæbo unable to compete.

Bolshunov was ruled out due to the ongoing ban on Russian skiers, while Norway’s Klæbo has been recovering from COVID-19.

Klæbo will receive the men’s overall crystal globe, with the five-time Olympic gold medallist ending the season on a total of 1,375 points.

Bolshunov was second on 878.

The season officially ends tomorrow with a mixed relay competition.
