Mikaël Kingsbury will be seeking to put a shock defeat at the Winter Olympics behind him when the first moguls World Cup event for almost two months takes place tomorrow.

The Canadian, who had to settle for the silver medal at Beijing 2022 after Swede Walter Wallberg produced a stunning run, has been in inspired form on the Freestyle World Cup curcuit this season.

Kingsbury won both previous dual moguls events - the discipline to be contested at Chiesa in Valmalenco tomorrow - and has six victories from nine moguls World Cup legs overall.

Should Kingsbury come up against Wallberg it will not happen until the final, or potentially the ski for third place.

Kingsbury is the top seed, whereas Wallberg is seed number three, with Japan's Ikuma Horishima second.

Horishima won the moguls bronze medal at Beijing 2022, and is also the reigning world bronze medallist in dual moguls.

Kingsbury is the world champion.

A women's event is also scheduled at the Italian venue.

Olympic champion Jakara Anthony is the top seed, and the Australian also leads the combined moguls World Cup standings.

France's Perrine Laffont is seeded second, and Beijing 2022 runner-up Jaelin Kauf from the United States is another likely podium contender, along with compatriot Kai Owens.

Dual moguls world champion and Beijing 2022 bronze medallist Anastasia Smirnova cannot compete as the International Ski Federation has banned Russian athletes over the nation's invasion of Ukraine.

Japan's Anri Hawamura - third in the overall standings - is also absent.
