Two-time Olympic medallist and World Sailing Athletes' Commission chair Jo Aleh has targeted a return to the Games at Paris 2024, following a five-year break.

Aleh earned gold for New Zealand with Polly Powrie in the women's 470 class at London 2012, and followed it with a silver medal at Rio 2016.

The pair also won five medals at the World Championships in the 470, including gold at La Rochelle in 2013.

Aleh has teamed up with Rio 2016 silver medallist Molly Meech to compete in the 49erFX class, and the pair are aiming for an appearance at the Olympics in two years' time.

"It’s a pretty short lead-in time, but we’re all go for an Olympic campaign," Aleh was quoted by New Zealand-based website Stuff.

"Everything’s happening pretty quickly."

While recognising that Paris 2024 represents a challenge, the Olympic gold medallist is relishing the opportunity.

"We know it’s going to be hard work over the next two years," Aleh said, according to Stuff.

"But we’re taking it seriously.

"We’re doing this to perform.

"The question is how far can we go?

"How much can we do in this time?

"I think coming in fresh isn't a bad thing.

“I've only ever sailed with Polly, which was for eight or nine years, and Molly has only sailed with Alex [Maloney], for nine or 10 years.

"Both crews were renowned for their team work, their synchronicity on and off their boats.

"But it’s surprising how similar Molly and I are."

After spending time coaching New Zealand's Nacra 17 sailors Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson, Aleh is looking forward to testing herself in a new class and admitted that the "learning curve is pretty sharp".

Her new partner Meech had sailed with Maloney in the 49erFX for 10 years, but they went separate ways after having to settle for a 12th-place finish at Tokyo 2020.

Sailing events at Paris 2024 are due to be held off the coast of Marseille in the south of France.
