Worldwide Olympic sponsor Samsung, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will give athletes at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games limited edition mobile phones as a gift.

Samsung will extend this offer for those at the Paralympic Games too thanks to a partnership with the International Paralympic Committee.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Olympic and Paralympic Edition smartphone will be the first foldable mobile phone distributed to participants at the Games.

These devices provided during the Games will include a range of pre-loaded apps, containing information for athletes at Beijing 2022.

Samsung first introduced its limited-edition Olympic phones at Nagano 1998 and they have been provided to athletes since Sochi 2014.

"Samsung's technology, innovation and commitment will allow fans and media from around the world to globally unite through a shared passion, and experience the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games up close and in real-time, safely and securely," said IOC television and marketing services managing director Timo Lumme.

This initiative was extended to Paralympians from Pyeongchang 2018 onwards.

There are 22 athletes - 15 Olympians and seven Paralympians - who are to act as ambassadors during Beijing 2022 as part of the "United By Passion" campaign.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games is scheduled to run until February 20.
