The women's Alpine Ski World Cup season is set to continue in Schladming, with the latest stop moved from the fellow Austrian resort of Flachau due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

Overall leader Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States has the chance to break the all-time single-discipline record for World Cup wins, should she triumph in tomorrow's slalom race.

Shiffrin has earned 46 career slalom victories, level with the tally set by Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark's in the giant slalom.

However, it is defending World Cup champion Petra Vlhová who has dominated the slalom this season, with her triumph in Kranjska Gora yesterday making it five wins from six.

Vlhová tops the discipline standings with 580 points, 240 more than Shiffrin, who won the season's only slalom competition where Vlhová was not victorious on home ice in Killington.

Shiffrin still tops the overall leaderboard, having accumulated 866 points to Vlhová's 831.

Italy's Sofia Goggia occupies the final podium position on 657, although a giant slalom win for discipline leader Sara Hector of Sweden in Slovenia helped her to close the gap on 568 in fourth place.

Wendy Holdener of Switzerland is fifth on 408 after placing second in the slalom yesterday, the discipline in which she won an Olympic silver medal at Pyeongchang 2018.

She is also third in the slalom standings.

Competition in Schladming is due to be held on the Planai course, after high COVID-19 cases in Flachau led to the venue change.

The circuit is set to remain in Austria on Saturday (January 15) and Sunday (January 16) for a downhill and super-G doubleheader in Zauchensee.
