Bronze medals were awarded today on the penultimate day of the Asian Karate Championships prior to tomorrow's finals, in Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Sakura Alforte of the Philippines defeated Fatemeh Sadeghi of Iran for the women's kata bronze and was joined on the podium by Grace Lau Mo Sheung of Hong Kong who won against Nguyen Thi Phuong of Vietnam.

In the men's kata, Iran's Abolfazl Shahrjerdi won bronze against Chen Chao-Ching of Chinese Taipei, while Mohammed Almosawi Sayed of Kuwait defeated Kazakhstan's Madi Kateshov.

Thailand's Kewalin Songklin and Leila Borjali of Iran took bronze respectively in the women's over-68 kilograms by beating Wen Tzu-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong's Ho Kai Yan; while Hong Kong's Tsang Yee Ting and Chinese Taipei's Gu Shiau-Shuang were the women's under-50kg bronze medallists having beaten Hawraa Al Ajmi of the United Arab Emirates and Sara Bahmanyar of Iran.

Iran's Taravat Khaksar defeated Sabina Zakharova of Kazakhstan in the women's under-55kg match, joined on the podium by Indonesian Cok Istri Agung Sanistyarani who won against Sevinch Rakhimova of Uzbekistan.

Kyrgyzstan's Kymbat Toitonova and Rozita Alipoureshka of Iran claimed bronze in the women's under-61kg, as did Assel Kanay of Kazakhstan and Vietnam's Thu Hien Ho Thi in the women's under-68kg.

Another bronze was won by Kyrgyzstan in the men's over-84kg thanks to Adilet Shadykanov and was joined on the same step of the podium by UAE's Sulaiman Almulla.

Indonesian Saputra Ari and Iran's Khordeh Belagh Pourya Aghdasi took bronze in the men's under-55kg, and Abdullah Shaaban of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia's Bader Alotaibi did the same in the men's under-60kg.

Kazakhstan's Didar Amirali and Abdel Rahman Almasatfa of Jordan were the bronze winners in the men's under-67kg.

Nurkanat Azhikanov of Kazakhstan and Iran's Ali Asghar Asiabari claimed bronze in the men's under-75kg.

Baek Jun-hyeok of South Korea and Wu Chun-Wei of Chinese Taipei were the bronze medallists in the under-84kg.
