The all-Egyptian affair began with a tightly contest opening game at the Black Ball Sporting Club, with fourth seed Asal taking the opener 16-14 having earlier trailed 10-5.

Farag responded to the setback in style, winning the second game of the contest 11-1.

The reigning world champion edged a tighter third game 11-9 to appear on course for victory.

Asal ensured a deciding game would be required after winning the fourth 11-6.

The decider was ultimately claimed by Farag, who sealed a 14-16, 11-1, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8 victory.

The result continued Farag's impressive record against Asal, having now won nine of their last 10 meetings.

"All credit to him, he is such a warrior, he kept digging and digging," Farag said.

"I think I had eight game balls in that one [first game] and I couldn’t convert, but I am extremely proud of how I didn’t let that get into my head. 

"It was a big blow psychologically, but I took the positives from the first and carried it on into the second and then the third, I played well again. 

"In the fourth, a lot of stoppages again, the ball softened up a bit and I couldn’t get it to the back and I didn’t really have a plan, and the fifth was a flip of a coin."

The second semi-final saw second seed Paul Coll produce a dominant display to overcome Egypt’s Marwan ElShorbagy.

Coll had yesterday trailed Wales' Joel Makin by two games to one, only to advance when the Welshman was forced to retire through injury.

Coll will now contest the final after losing just 12 points against ElShorbagy in their last-four meeting.

The world number four secured an 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 victory to set up the contest with Farag.
