France’s Marc-Antoine Olivier completed a hat-trick of consecutive victories as Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil won the women's race at the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Marathon World Series in Eilat.

Olivier was awarded the win in the men's 10 kilometres race after being adjudged to have edged out Olympic silver medallist Kristóf Rasovszky of Hungary.

The Frenchman, bronze medallist in the 10km at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, clocked 1hour 49min 14.90sec to secure his third straight triumph on the World Series circuit.

Rasovszky, who thought he had done enough to pip Olivier to top spot, was second, while Germany's Niklas Frach took third.

Cunha, the reigning Olympic champion after winning gold at Tokyo 2020 earlier this year, was a clear victor in the women's 10km race.

The Brazilian star finished the course in 2:01:36 to beat France's Oceane Cassignol, who was 1.40 adrift in second.

Giulia Gabbrielleschi of Italy did enough for third having clocked 2:01:38.30.

The Israeli leg of the World Series will be followed by the season finale, scheduled to run from December 15 to 16 in Abu Dhabi.
