Held under the patronage of International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Special Olympics, SportAccord, Global Association of International Sports Federations and Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport, the festival was held in an online format from November 20 with over 100 organisations participating.

Values promoted through the festival included inclusion, non-discrimination, equality and togetherness.

Closing the festival were IOC director general and Executive Board member Christophe de Kepper, IPC President Andrew Parsons, Special Olympics chief executive Mary Davis and UTS President Stephan Fox.

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, the President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, delivered the closing speech too.

Parsons, Davis and Fox were also part of the Opening Ceremony with IOC President Thomas Bach.

In his closing speech, Fox particularly praised Saudi Arabian youth.

"Saudi youth are cool and inquisitive kids, the future looks bright," said Fox.

"To see yet again the International Federations and their National Federations working together was fantastic, we all witnessed how sport unites us all and how much we can achieve standing in solidarity."

Thousands of young people competed in five competitions during the festival - max fit, aero fit, IPC inclusive challenge, and the Special Olympics Unified Fitness Challenge and talent competition.

There were also four live workshops and six conference sessions throughout the week, with the IOC Young Leaders' workshop and the UTS World Youth Ambassador workshop combined having over 30,000 viewers and participants.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and Minister of Tourism and Sport Aziz Adbukhakimov took the stage to announce Uzbekistan would host the 2022 edition.

UTS chief executive Julia Govinden expressed her gratitude to all in attendance at the Closing Ceremony too, again praising the young people from the host nation.

"This event has changed lives of many youths and in Saudi Arabia," said Govinden.

"The youth have been able to share their diverse talents on the international platform. 

"We have been amazed by the immense talent and each event stands to represent how diverse the kingdom is. 

"The participation in this festival says it all, and our efforts to give opportunity to all youth will continue."

Over the next seven days, youth will be encouraged to visit the virtual platform for learning resources, as well as to find out the winners of the talent competition.
