Scheduled to run until Sunday (November 28), the competition is the sixth leg of the season.

There will be medals and points awarded in men's, women's pairs and ice dance disciplines.

World junior champion from last year Kamila Valieva and her compatriot, the world silver medallist Elizaveta Tuktamysheva are expected to face each other again in front of their home crowd.

They were first and second at the Skate Canada event earlier this season and will be looking for a similar result this weekend.

Gran Premio d’Italia silver medallist Maiia Khromykh of Russia and bronze medallist Loena Hendrickx of Belgium are also in contention for a place in the Final, which is due to take place in the Japanese city Osaka from December 9 to 12.

In the men's competition, Gran Premio d’Italia silver medallist Mikhail Kolyada will be aiming for the podium in his home nation too, but will face competition from his training mate Evgeni Semenenko, who still has a shot at getting to Osaka - as does 2019 European bronze medallist Matteo Rizzo of Italy and Georgian Morisi Kvitelashvili.

Russia could take a clean sweep across the categories if the chips fall in the right places as NHK Trophy winners Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov headline the pairs competition.

Skate Canada silver medallists Daria Pavliuchenko and Denis Khodykin will also be hoping to claim a medal on home ice and a spot in Japan.

Nicole Della Monica and Matteo Guarise of Italy, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro of Canada, and Miriam Ziegler and Severin Kiefer of Austria are all in podium contention.

Finally, the ice dance home favourites are Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, who also won the NHK Trophy.

Skate Canada silver medallists Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy are also in contention for making the Final, while Canadians Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen will challenge too following on from a bronze at Skate America.
